On November 19, 2021, Amazon announced the new Compliance Reference Tool.
Compliance Reference Tool
This tool was created to help assist with navigating compliance obligations when selling on Amazon.com. According to the News page, it offers the following:
- Pre-listing, self-service tools to help you navigate product compliance, import and export trade compliance, and dangerous goods compliance.
- Searchability by keyword to help you find compliance requirements that are relevant to your product.
- Access to a list of service providers in your area who can help you meet compliance requirements.
Using the Compliance Reference Tool, you can search by keyword; however, we have found that no search results come up in most cases. We found that using the “tree” on the page, and navigating by product category, and narrowing down to product types is easier. However, still, most of the time, we did not find any relevant results for the products we or our clients sell.
Staying Compliant with Amazon's Policies
It’s possible that since this has just been rolled out, there are still some flaws to the tool and that eventually, it will be a more useful and user-friendly tool. Or, it’s possible that the search is so narrow because Amazon simply has limited “approved” service providers.
Once you choose a product type, a button will appear called “View help content” which takes you to a separate page where Amazon provides a list of basic requirements for the product type, as well as a list of service providers sorted by location.
