Shopping for clothes online can be challenging — especially when the models shown in the images look absolutely nothing like you. In an attempt to combat this lack of representation, Amazon has announced the launch of Diverse On-Model Imagery starting March 31, 2023.
“Amazon is for everyone, so our stores’ imagery should feature representations of people that are as diverse as are our customers. This new feature adds on-model imagery to the detail page for select ASINs in the Apparel Category at no additional cost for sellers. The result will be multiple diverse models featuring the same product.”
What is Diverse On-Model Imagery?
Amazon is launching Diverse On-Model Imagery to improve the inclusivity of their product display pages for online shoppers. The result will be additional images getting added automatically to ASINs in some Adult Apparel Categories. We suspect in the future, that this will be rolled out to more categories such as beauty – and that this is the first round of testing.
How Will Amazon Implement This Feature?
Amazon will be curating an Image Block including 1-3 New Images (MAIN, PT01, PT02) displaying multiple diverse models. There are no actions needed by Sellers — this process will be done automatically on Amazon’s end, and from the looks of it, there is not a way to opt out for Sellers who are not interested in being a part of the program; similar to other content updates that Amazon has rolled out, seller’s abilities to control their listings is becoming restricted by Amazon’s requirements.
