If you haven’t already heard – Amazon has recently announced a new image policy for hardline products. “Effective January 31, product detail pages for hardlines product types may display images from multiple selling partners to help customers make informed purchase decisions.”
How Did Amazon's Image Policy Change for Product Display Pages?
Before, Amazon would only display images from one seller at a time. As of Jan 31, 2024 – Amazon may choose an array of images from multiple sellers.
How Does Amazon's Image Policy Change Impact Brand Owners?
If your product images don’t follow Amazon’s new standards, you are at risk of another seller’s image contributions taking over and as a result, potentially altering or damaging your brand’s customer perception.
According to Amazon, this change will "help customers make informed purchase decisions”. However, many sellers disagree. The Seller Forum post makes it clear that the general opinion is that this will likely cause nightmares for many brand owners. Some say that Amazon should reconsider this altogether.
Maintaining Control over Images with Amazon’s New Image Policy:
It’s important to ensure that your products follow Amazon’s standards for images so that you’re more likely to maintain control. Amazon requires product pages to contain one of each:
- Product with pure white background (main image)
- Product in an environment (lifestyle image)
- Size and fit information (Infographic)
It’s important to also note that although Amazon accepts images between 500-10,000 px, images must be larger than 1,000 px to enable zoom capabilities.
Aside from the above basic requirements, it’s important that your images follow Amazon’s entire list of image specification requirements. We recommend reviewing their help page here to gain a full understanding and make sure that your images are compliant to avoid issues.
