Changes are coming to Amazon’s Product Attribute Requirements soon. We think it’s important to stay up to date on content requirements and implement them as they get released to avoid a chance in your product catalog getting blown apart in the future.
How Are the Product Attribute Requirements Changing?
The below attribute requirements will be changing starting June 6, 2023:
“The required attributes and the product types that will require them are as follows:
- Color name: backpack, underpants, bra, apron, keychain, costume outfit
- Size name: leotard, scarf, sunglasses
- Product description: light fixture, art supplies, hardware handle, kitchen, artificial plant, wireless accessory, home furniture and decor, office products”
How Can Sellers Ensure Their Listings Remain Compliant?
Amazon states this change only impacts new products:
“All new listings for the affected product types will require valid attribute information or the product will not be added to the catalog. This attribute information isn’t required for active listings.”
However, in our experience, it's best practice to keep your product catalog compliant with new requirements as they get updated. That way, you avoid the chance of your product catalog becoming deactivated or your Parent/Child listings becoming torn apart (both of which we have seen happen before).
Our Recommended Best Practices
In our opinion, it’s much easier to be proactive when it comes to keeping your catalog up to date with new requirements, than trying to put the pieces back together after the fact. If your product type is affected by the new requirements, we recommend making updates to your content now to avoid potential headaches in the future.
